Secret Garden

The artwork “Secret Garden” emphasizes the artist’s perspective of the most magnificent landscape. One where we can appreciate the colors of the leaves,  flowers, and flowing river. A place known, by only a small number of people, us included. We can wander along with the green leaves and nature. We can feel and submerge through the waters of the secret garden.  “Secret Garden” is a place where you can let go and learn from your deepest roots. Listen to the river and listen to your heart and mind.  With this bold and colorful masterpiece, Silvina celebrates the potential of artistic imagination to invite other ways to see it. She creates a world where we can belong and invites us to join her. The secret garden where she treads her path in search of love and union. Silvina explains that her art is a form of self-expression. Art helps people that cannot express themselves by words or fear of expressing emotions. She also uses art as means of creating community.

Hear from the artist herself:

This exhibit is an opportunity to acknowledge mental health literacy amongst Hispanics. Mental health literacy consists of knowledge of a mental disorder and the associated stigma. Barriers to depression treatment among Hispanic populations include stigma perpetrated by inadequate knowledge of disease and cultural factors. U.S.-born Hispanics are more likely to have depression compared to Hispanics born in Latin America. They are also less likely to follow a treatment plan compared to non-Hispanic whites. Hispanic women are more likely to access treatment through a primary care provider, making it an ideal setting for early mental health interventions.
